Jimmy Dean's Recipe for Any Excuse to Celebrate (And Breakfast Casserole)Sunday Brunch at Edisto March 28, 2004 © 2004 Sara Lee Foods Whether it's Easter, Arbor Day or your pet goldfish's birthday, you can always find a reason for a family get-together. Remove tarp from patio table and dust off patio chairs. There is a cool spring breeze just screaming "outdoor dining." Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
In large skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat, stirring frequently until it is no longer pink. (You can do this ahead of time and store in refrigerator. In large mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, mustard and salt; stir well. Distribute half the bread in a buttered 9"x 13" x2" baking dish. Sprinkle with half the pepper and half the cheese. Top with half the sausage; add half of each of the optional ingredients. Repeat layering using remaining bread, cheese, sausage and optional ingredients. Pour egg mixture over casserole. Bake uncovered 60 minutes or until eggs are set. Tent with foil if top browns too quickly. By this time the aromas will have found their way upstairs, and your family should be getting out of bed and joining you shortly. |
